30,000 Corporate Jobs Cut Amid AI-Driven Restructuring

Amazon, one of the largest employers globally, is set to execute its largest-ever round of layoff targeting approximately 30,000 corporate employees. This news marks yet another significant development in the ongoing tech industry shake-up, as Amazon aims to streamline operations and prepare for a future increasingly shaped by AI and automation.

Layoff Scope and Context
The layoffs are expected to span numerous corporate divisions such as Human Resources (People Experience and Technology or PXT), operations, Amazon Web Services (AWS), devices, and services. Amazon currently employs around 350,000 corporate staff globally, out of a total workforce of about 1.54 million, with a majority belonging to warehouse operations.
This decision follows a similar move in 2022, when Amazon cut over 27,000 jobs. The company is currently preparing impacted managers with communication training ahead of formal notifications to employees.

Implications and Industry Trends
This round of layoffs reflects a broader trend. In 2025, over many tech firms have collectively laid off a lot of employees, with industry giants like Intel, Microsoft, and TCS following suit.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has publicly linked these workforce reductions to the need for a “cost-effective” and “bureaucracy-light” organization. He also acknowledges that rapid AI adoption is a significant factor reshaping workforce needs.
